Here's how cigar-savvy I am: I read the bit about montecristos, and I thought, "Sandwich? Why does Paul want Nat to buy him sandwiches?" *ahem* I'm a bad blogger who doesn't post enough. In my defense, I offer the following excuses: 1. I've been moving to the downstairs apartment, which means that I had to transfer utilities, which means that my phone company/DSL provider (I'll give you a hint; their name rhymes with Bameritech) has completely screwed up everything, rendering me internet access-less until next week.
2. Work bought me a laptop. I spend most of my free time gazing into its captivating 14.1" screen and caressing its clean lines and inconvenient pad mouse.
3. I have a rotten cold. Seriously. I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say that every part of my head designed for breathing is clogged by something slimy and generally unpleasant. If you don't believe me, give me a call. You'll swear it's Harvey Fierstein answering the phone.

while i have since mediated my opinion of Levinas in light of certain facts revealed during the course of class discussion, i don't love him as much as Heidegger, who by the way is singing with angels, angels who congratulate him every day on being the last brilliant human being in history.
but I'm serious about this: Adorno can go to hell.
cat fights are cool. what you should do is feed them a couple piles of Meowie Wowie. rather than battle, they'll stare at blacklight posters and debate whether Phish is a suitable replacement for the Grateful Dead. it'll be like a little kitty sixties in your very own apartment. meow, man.
frozen mercury? cuba? nat, what madness have you gotten yourself into? and could you pick me up a few montecristos?
i was at a party, though, and this dude told me that cuban cigars have begun to lack in quality. something about a recent harsh climate and failing funds. has anyone else heard? and when did i start going to parties where people talked cigars? damn.

Ah. . . florida, is it all the way up to freezing there? It must be warm then.
Actually I have been thinking of going to cuba. it seems that everyone here heads to the land of fine smokes. Which I have to say kinda freaked me out the first time I heard it. Cuba, I may have had the same reaction to someone going to Russia in the early 80's. BUt apparently they go to cuba at the drop of a hat here. Who knew.

OK, Nat, you win. It's definitely cold here, but not cold enough to freeze thermometer guts. As I tromp around outside with the hood of my down coat cinched tightly around my head, however, I am comforted in the knowledge that I will be in South Carolina and Florida in less than 3 weeks. We're going down to SC to muck around with wedding plans, and to spend a couple of days in Florida so I can meet my future in-laws. I'll think of all of you fondly as I bask in southern sun.

Scene: Marc and I are at Home Depot, strolling through the nursery. Me: Smell this hyacinth.
Him: No.
Me: No, dude. Seriously. This is the best smell, my favorite smell in the whole world.
Him: Fine. (smells flower, screws up face) Bleh!
Me: How the hell can you say 'bleh' to the smell of a hyacinth? It's wonderful! It reminds me of Spring! And Easter!
Him: It reminds me of bees.

you lucky bastards. For a while I was enchanted with winter. But these last few weeks of feeling lucky if the mercury reaches all of -20 has changed my perspective on life. Oh if only it could be up to freezing. And not the freezong point of mercury (which apparently is -38 C. It gets so cold here that the goddam mercury freezes). Ah well it should be spring in only three short months.

Cold? What's that? Idaho has been so pleasant this last few months, I'm not even sure where my winter jacket is.

It's just as well. All you're missing, Jen, is an unremarkable gay sex site's splash page. A bunch of penises and washboard stomachs ... that sort of thing. I've been moving all week to the previously-mentioned downstairs apartment in my house. I've gone from one bedroom to four, which is thrilling, and now Marc and I will have enough room once we're all hitched and shit. I've also been engaged in the exciting task of refereeing cats, since Marc has already moved NimbusTheCat into the apartment. Trauma abounds, complete with many decibels-worth of frantic hissing echoing through the halls at all hours. In other news, Melinda's car was stolen a few weeks back. The cops found it yesterday, abandoned in the flats. The mastermind criminals smashed out the back window, took unsuccessfully to the front windshield with a sledgehammer, removed the battery, scratched and dented it all over, and broke off the side mirrors. The inside of the car was filled with random clothing, McDonald's bags, marijuana seeds, and accompanying blunt roaches. They were also kind enough to leave behind several rap CDs. Melinda suggested to the cops that since the car was filled with fingerprint-laden evidence, they might like to lift prints in hopes of finding the bastard(s) who trashed her car. The cops -- fine members of the Cleveland Police Department -- shrugged and told her to call her insurance company. Northeast Ohio law enforcement. Hip hip hooray.

I'm fearful of what's at studnet.com. I can't bring myself to look at it.

Considering Heidegers participation with the holocaust he may well be there with Levinas. Or perhaps it was his writings that got him there on their own.
Yup this is the same dog kate, and it is looking like we might keep him, even though the little fucker bit me last week. But asside from that he seems entirely adorable, what is a little blood loss between friends anyway.
Ahh studnet.com the happy memories get me all a-flutter, wally too.

I just noticed that every time I try to type the word "student," I inadvertently end up typing "studnet" instead, which if you think about it is kinda funny, because the meanings are wildly divergent. I do not, however, recommend browsing to www.studnet.com, just because you're curious about whether the domain is taken. Trust me.

Speaking of drugs, I was in the cat specialty store (*insert chortles here*) last night, buying cat chow. While browsing the catnip section (That's right. This place has a whole section devoted to catnip.), I encountered a brand called "Meowie Wowie." I instantly reverted to my 20th year of life, wherein all jokes related to marijuana were the funniest jokes ever conceived, and stood giggling my ass off in the middle of the store. I don't know who the hell I'm trying to fool with this "grown-up" act.
